This ongoing series "a matter of belief" critically focuses on the topic of wellness as one of the fastest growing industries in the world. The wellness sector ranges from spa, thermal springs, beauty and anti-aging to alternative and complementary medicine as well as mind-body services that purport healing powers. There is a shift from well-known forms of wellness like meditation, sauna or yoga to practices like oxygen bars, aroma therapies , crystal therapy , colour therapy , energy healing, radionics and so on. Often these wellness services have not been tested for efficacy or safety but rely on the belief of the client (and/or the social competence of the service provider). A lot of service providers occupy the field of wellness enhancement services and they are said to understand how to make their clients feel protected, cared for and listened to, which might allow them to compensate for what is being missed in biomedical treatment.

To find out more about the topic I asked people during informal conversations what they do to enhance their wellbeing in everyday life. Practices range from yoga to hair analysis and many do not only use one of these practices but many of them simultaneously.   This series combines documentary and staged photography.
